Softball Recap: Sylmar Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Sylmar had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past the Van Nuys Wolves 9-2. That's more bragging rights for the Spartans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The team relied heavily on Maya Salceda, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Katherine Godoy was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Sylmar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Sylmar's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Van Nuys, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sylmar will square off against Monroe at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 20.67 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Van Nuys, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Franklin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
