Commerce is 2-7 against Edgewood since November of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Commerce Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Edgewood Bulldogs at 6:50 p.m. Commerce is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road.
Commerce suffered their biggest defeat yet this season last Tuesday. They were the victim of a tough 56-34 defeat at the hands of Rains. While losing is never fun, Commerce can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while Rains is ranked 60th).
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Edgewood's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They received a tough blow as they fell 49-34 to Rains.
The losing side was boosted by Kassidy Paul, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Anna Nicholson, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Commerce's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-6. As for Edgewood, their loss dropped their record down to 19-8.
Commerce strolled past Edgewood in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a score of 62-46. The rematch might be a little tougher for Commerce since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
