The Dallas Dragons will face off against the Silverton Foxes at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Dallas is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Crescent Valley just ended the team's nine-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 12-11. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Dragons, who until this matchup were averaging 3.48 runs allowed.
Harlow Nelson was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Grace Walls, who went 1-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Silverton had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They put the hurt on the Redhawks with a sharp 16-5 win. Considering the Foxes have won 11 games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Mckenzee Petersen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Madalynn Ehrens was incredible, firing off three home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Ava Brautigam was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Silverton lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Dallas' loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Silverton, their victory bumped their record up to 14-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Dallas hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Silverton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Dallas beat Silverton 9-4 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Dragons repeat their success, or do the Foxes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
