The Jefferson Forest Cavaliers will venture away from home to face off against the Rustburg Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are still undefeated after six games, but that won't be the case come Tuesday.
Jefferson Forest lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Staunton River, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's matchup. Jefferson Forest was the clear victor by a 9-2 margin over Staunton River on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Cavaliers have posted against the Golden Eagles since April 1, 2019.
Amelia Long tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Ashleigh Johnson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Taya Hall also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
The home team had come away the winner the last three times Rustburg and Brookville had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Rustburg's pitcher stepped up to hand Brookville a 4-0 shutout on Friday.
Not much got past Laila Bigham, who gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks to keep Brookville off the board.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Harley Johnson, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Nahla Bigham, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Rustburg's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Jefferson Forest, their record now sits at 6-0.
Jefferson Forest couldn't quite get it done against Rustburg in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can Jefferson Forest avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
