The Canutillo Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Del Valle Conquistadores at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Canutillo's defense has only allowed 25.5 points per game this season, so Del Valle's offense will have their work cut out for Del Valle.
On Tuesday, Canutillo blew past Horizon, posting a 54-13 win at home. Given Canutillo's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 589th, while Horizon is ranked 1240th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Canutillo's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mia Lopez, who scored 11 points along with 7 steals. Another player making a difference was Rebekah Perez, who scored 13 points along with 5 steals and 4 blocks.
Meanwhile, Del Valle's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 28-14 bruising from El Dorado.
Canutillo is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Del Valle, they now have a losing record at 8-9.
Canutillo was able to grind out a solid win over Del Valle in their previous meeting back in November, winning 27-20. Will Canutillo repeat their success, or does Del Valle have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
