The Severance Silver Knights will square off against the Lutheran Lions at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Severance sitting on eight straight victories and Lutheran on four.
Severance's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Greeley Central. Considering the Silver Knights have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Declan Moylett and Kolton Beidleman were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Moylett pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Beidleman pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Moylett went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI, while Beidleman went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That's the most doubles Moylett has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Severance let Dom Rice and Karson Panas run wild. Rice went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Panas got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Braeden Kerkseik also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Severance kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 14 consecutive matches.
Lewis-Palmer typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Lutheran proved too difficult a challenge. They skirted past the Rangers 6-5.
Lutheran also got a great performance from Landry Warner as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Lutheran saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Misch, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Tyce Macnamara was another, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Severance pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Lutheran, their record now sits at 14-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Severance has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lutheran struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
