Basketball Recap: Axtell Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

A well-balanced attack led Axtell over Wilcox-Hildreth in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. The Axtell Wildcats strolled past the Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons with points to spare, taking the game 61-46. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 50.1 points per game.

Axtell's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Halvorsen, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. Halvorsen's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Brandt Modlin was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Axtell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Wilcox-Hildreth had strong showings from Kaleb Johnson, who posted ten points and eight boards, and Landon Lienemann, who scored 14 points. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played.

Axtell's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10. As for Wilcox-Hildreth, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.

Axtell will challenge Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Axtell is facing Franklin at the right time seeing as Franklin is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Wilcox-Hildreth, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-30 defeat against Amherst on the 25th.
