The Whitehorse Raiders lost against the Monticello Buckaroo back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Whitehorse took a 50-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Monticello. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Whitehorse in their matchups with Monticello: they've now lost three in a row.
Several Raiders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lyric Phillips, who scored 21 points. That was a full 46.7% of Whitehorse's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Larenz Tsosie was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Monticello had a senior duo take command as Mason Atwood dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds and Curtis Bunker scored 12 points along with six assists and five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Atwood scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Pehrson, who scored three points along with five assists and three steals.
Whitehorse now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Monticello, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-9.
Whitehorse will face off against Northwest at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Northwest is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. As for Monticello, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Grand County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Grand County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matches.
