West Wendover had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 1-6 to make it six. They came up short against the Sierra Lutheran Falcons, falling 18-8. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, with their most recent defeat being a 15-4 loss on Saturday.
Holliann Hillstead was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in six of her seven plate appearances with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Yaretzi Saucedo, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
As for Sierra Lutheran, their win bumped their record up to 3-0. Fans of they have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
On Sierra Lutheran's side, Natalee Parrish spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and one unearned) runs on 15 hits and racked up 15 Ks. Parrish has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Alissa Waller was a standout: she went 4-for-6 with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Waller is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least four every time she's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Libby Thetford, who went 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
West Wendover didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 21-1 defeat against Yerington on the 13th. As for Sierra Lutheran, they have also already played their next contest, a 13-1 victory against North Tahoe on the 10th.
