The Columbus Discoverers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They had just enough and edged Lincoln High out 66-63. The win was nothing new for Columbus as they're now sitting on three straight.
Columbus got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Griffin Micek out in front who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Preston Hastreiter was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Lincoln High lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brady Nick, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Ramadan, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Columbus pushed their record up to 4-12 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Lincoln High, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Packers at 7:15 p.m. on January 31st. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Omaha South is ranked 205th, while the Discoverers are ranked 212th). As for Lincoln High, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Wildcats at 5:15 p.m. on January 27th. Allowing an average of 54.7 points per game, Millard West has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this game.
