Softball Recap: Ferndale Wins Going Away Against United

Ferndale made up a huge gap compared to their last game against United, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Yellow Jackets put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 19-3 win on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by nine runs or more this season.

Ferndale got a massive performance out of Aubrielle Leverknight, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs Leverknight has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Barley, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2.

Ferndale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Ferndale's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for United, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ferndale will host Blacklick Valley at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for United, they will welcome Purchase Line at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Dragons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Lions' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
