The Roy Royals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell just short of Bonneville by a score of 57-54. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Roy has suffered since November 28, 2023.
Several Royals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bronson Belnap, who scored 22 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Belnap is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Corben Schuffenhauer was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Bonneville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hayden Ashbridge, who scored 16 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. It was the first time this season that Ashbridge scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Nick Sebahar, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Roy now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Bonneville, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-12.
Roy will square off against Clearfield at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Roy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Friday. As for Bonneville, they will be playing at home against Box Elder at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Box Elder is ranked 77th, while Bonneville is ranked 81st).
