It was a good run, but the Spring Valley Vikings unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of Rock Hill by a score of 49-47. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Spring Valley came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Rock Hill is ranked 118th).
When it comes to explaining why Spring Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Justin Skelton. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with three steals. Jordan Burgess was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Leading Rock Hill to victory were Dashawn Anderson and Malik Ashe. Anderson scored nine points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Ashe scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. Ashe's trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Shelton Adams, who scored four points.
Spring Valley's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Rock Hill, their victory bumped their record up to 6-11.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Fort Mill the next time they take the court. Rock Hill will head out to face Fort Mill at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, while Spring Valley will host them at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
