Gray's Creek hasn't had much luck against Cape Fear recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Bears will be playing in front of their home fans against the Colts at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cape Fear will be up against a hot Gray's Creek squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went the Bears' way against Seventy-First on Tuesday as they made off with a 14-3 victory.
Gunner Sterling was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Williams, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Gray's Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Cape Fear has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.12 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 20-12 margin over Jack Britt. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Colts considering their one-run performance the game before.
Nick Serbio looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Cape Fear let Jackson Rainey and Brycen Talley run wild. Rainey went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs, while Talley got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Rainey has posted since back in April of 2024. Chris Serbio was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Gray's Creek pushed their record up to 15-8 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Cape Fear, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season.
Gray's Creek was able to grind out a solid win over Cape Fear when the teams last played on Friday, winning 6-1. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
