Softball Recap: Brookeland Extends Winning Streak to Six

Brookeland came tearing into Tuesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Chester Yellowjackets with a sharp 10-3 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-0 back in March.

Paige Powell made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Caylee Morgan was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Elisabeth Lundquist was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Brookeland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in six consecutive games.

Brookeland pushed their record up to 9-4-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Chester, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brookeland will face off against Hemphill at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Chester, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Zavalla at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
