Volleyball Recap: St. Pius X Takes a Loss

St. Pius X was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Teresa's Academy Stars. The Warriors were not able to make up for their defeat to the Stars from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

St. Pius X started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20.

Despite the loss, St. Pius X saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alaina Ortiz had 17 digs and two assists. Ortiz is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last eight games she's played.

Leading St. Teresa's Academy to victory were Avery Growney and Naomi Randall. Growney had 14 digs and three aces, while Randall had ten digs and one block. Those three aces gave Growney a new career-high.

St. Pius X's defeat dropped their record down to 10-13-1. As for St. Teresa's Academy, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

St. Pius X didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Academie Lafayette on the 2nd. As for St. Teresa's Academy, they have also already played their next matchup, a 2-0 loss against Lee's Summit West on the 4th.
