Softball Recap: Archbishop Spalding's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Archbishop Spalding waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Mount de Sales Academy Sailors. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cavaliers also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Cessi Prince spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Julia Quarles, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Jalayah Jones was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Archbishop Spalding hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive games.

Archbishop Spalding pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mount de Sales Academy, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-5.

Looking ahead, Archbishop Spalding will head out to challenge Queen Anne's County at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Mount de Sales Academy, they will be playing at home against Francis Scott Key at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
