Two dominant backs in Luke Fischer and Griffin Schumacher are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Larned Indians will be playing at home against the Thomas More Prep-Marian Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Larned is ranked 122nd, while Thomas More Prep-Marian is ranked 117th).
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Larned ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They secured a 46-40 W over Lakin. The win was just what Larned needed coming off of a 34-6 defeat in their prior game.
Larned can attribute much of their success to Fischer, who rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Carson Shaver was another key contributor, throwing for 95 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Thomas More Prep-Marian came up short against Beloit on Friday and fell 14-6. Thomas More Prep-Marian has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Larned's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Thomas More Prep-Marian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Saturday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Larned has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 258.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Thomas More Prep-Marian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 185.5 per game. It's looking like Saturday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
