Lakeland extended the longest winning streak in 7A District 5 this week by beating Bartow, 43-21. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Dreadnaughts.
Lakeland's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Aaron Johnson threw for 152 yards and Xavier Spann had 108 yards receiving. On the ground AJ Davis chipped in 111 yards. Damon Black Jr. helped Lakeland's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 44 yards.
Johnson put up the best numbers through the air as Bill Castle's team bested the Yellow Jackets. Johnson's favorite target this week was Spann, who caught 4 passes for 108 yards.
Lakeland's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Dreadnaughts feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Johnson has thrown for 649 yards and 6 touchdowns this season, while Black Jr. has 19 catches for 241 yards.
The Dreadnaughts' offense has scored 232 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Ridge has allowed only 96 on the year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Lakeland takes on the Bolts. At the moment, the Dreadnaughts are in first, while Ridge is in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Lakeland takes on Russell Rogers' team. The Dreadnaughts have allowed 124 points this season, while the Bolts have given up 96. Lakeland allowed 21 points last week as it bested Bartow.
Ridge made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,163 from 2,676. The advance stemmed from a 44-14 victory over Jenkins last week.
