4A Mid-South recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Seventy-First, who took down 140th ranked Seventy-First, 15-12. Spencer Faircloth threw for 106 yards and one touchdown and ran for eight yards in the win.
Cape Fear moved up to 209 from 267 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Mid-South. A 15-12 win over the Falcons helped the Colts improve their standing.
E.E. Smith's dynamic duo of Phillip Bell and Ismail Williamson proved tough for Pine Forest to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Bell threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns and Williamson had 164 yards receiving. Ayinde Mixon helped E.E. Smith's passing attack out by catching one ball for two yards.
Eric Carter was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 156 yards as Jack Britt bested the Trojans. Marquice Foshee also contributed to the rushing game with 80 yards on the ground.
Cape Fear's Faircloth and Cole Humphrey have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Faircloth has thrown for 968 yards this season, while Humphrey, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 27 catches for 406 yards. Bell from E.E. Smith leads the league in rushing with 736 yards.
A big matchup in 4A Mid-South this week will be when Duran Mclaurin's team takes on Terry Sanford. The Golden Bulls are in second place, while the Bulldogs are in fourth place.
E.E. Smith extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Pine Forest, 20-10. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
