The Southside Seahawks pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. The game between them and Northside - Pinetown wasn't particularly close, with Southside falling 74-57. While losing is never fun, Southside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 351st, while the Panthers are ranked 174th).
Southside lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tamya Smith, who scored 20 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of I'Kiriyah Minor, who scored 19 points along with two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Southside and nudges their season record down to 12-7. As for Northside - Pinetown, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southside won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. Pamlico County will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Northside - Pinetown, they will head out on the road to take on the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jones has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 22.
