Westview extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-6. They lost 23-2 to the Deer Valley Skyhawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Skyhawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 on Tuesday.
Westview saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rames Galindo, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
As for Deer Valley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Deer Valley's side, Max Weaver and Cam Waddell were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Weaver pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Waddell pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Weaver went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Waddell got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Deer Valley is 3-1 when Weaver posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, Deer Valley got a massive performance out of Tyler Carr, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Carr is becoming a predictor of the Skyhawks' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Noah Blaskovic was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Westview is set to face off against their familiar foe Agua Fria at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Deer Valley will square off against rival Estrella Foothills at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
