The John Battle Trojans were the 58-47 winner over the Lee Generals when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. John Battle fell 81-73 to the Generals on Friday. John Battle's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why John Battle lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kara Kelley. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kelley has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Keeley Smith, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
John Battle struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Lee racked up 14 assists.
Lee was led to victory by Cassidy Hammonds and Kinley Huff. Hammonds dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten assists, while Huff went 9 for 17 from beyond the arc en route to 39 points and 0 assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Huff has scored at least a third of Lee's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Bishop, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
John Battle dropped their record down to 5-14 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Lee, their victory bumped their record up to 5-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. John Battle will take on the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Wise presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Trojans in Virginia (the Warriors are ranked 24th, while the Trojans are ranked 247th). As for Lee, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Titans at 6:30 p.m. on February 5th.
