The Mitchell Mustangs will face off against the East Lake Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mitchell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Mitchell is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They put the hurt on Wiregrass Ranch with a sharp 11-4 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Mustangs have posted against the Bulls since March 11, 2019.
Madyson Whitaker was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Savannah Hencz, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Mitchell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are a perfect 17-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, East Lake came tearing into Thursday's game with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers a 5-0 shutout. Five seems to be a good number for the Eagles as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Not much got past Lucy Mondok, who gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Palmetto off the board. Mondok has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, East Lake let Ali Sheffield and Danni Scali run wild. Sheffield went 1-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base, while Scali went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
East Lake pushed their record up to 21-4 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mitchell, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season.
Both Mitchell and East Lake just can't seem to miss. The Mustangs have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. However, it's not like East Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mitchell couldn't quite finish off East Lake in their previous meeting last Wednesday and fell 5-3. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
