There's no place like home for the Unicoi County Blue Devils, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They took down Elizabethton 73-54 on Friday. Given Unicoi County's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Elizabethton is ranked 267th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Unicoi County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jackson Simmons out in front who scored 28 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Simmons has scored at least a third of Unicoi County's points. Kolby Jones was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds.
Unicoi County's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.8 points per game. As for Elizabethton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Unicoi County will take on Science Hill at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Science Hill will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Elizabethton, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Tennessee at 8:00 p.m.
