The Northeast Hurricanes will take on the Jensen Beach Falcons at TBD on Monday. Jensen Beach took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Northeast, who comes in off a win.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 17 more assists than your opponent, a fact Northeast proved on Wednesday. They breezed by Chaminade-Madonna at home to the tune of 66-11. Given Northeast's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while the Lions are ranked 612th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Northeast's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ya?Niyah Young, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Young hasn't dropped below 15 points for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Riniya Jean-Baptiste, who scored 20 points along with six steals and five assists.
Meanwhile, Jensen Beach's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They took a 47-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Treasure Coast. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Jensen Beach in their matchups with the Titans: they've now lost three in a row.
Northeast is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. As for Jensen Beach, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.
Northeast suffered a grim 49-29 defeat to the Falcons in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Northeast, Lauren Cioffi (who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
