Newton County Academy proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 13) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-9 win over the Starkville Christian Cougars. Cooper Thrash was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. In other batting news, Bryce Jones was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Gaines Boyd was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Newton County Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
The win got Newton County Academy back to even at 7-7. As for Starkville Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-1.
