Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only East St. Louis walked away with it. They blew past Normal West 54-7 at home. Considering East St. Louis has won six matchups by more than 40 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Larevious Woods went supernova for East St. Louis, rushing for 184 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per carry. Rico Bond was another key contributor, picking up 127 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Kankakee put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 49-35 victory over Blue Island Eisenhower. Given Kankakee's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Blue Island Eisenhower is ranked 141st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
East St. Louis pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.0 points per game. As for Kankakee, their win bumped their record up to 11-0.
