It was a good run, but the St. Mary Academy-Bay View Bengals unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak dating back to last season on Tuesday. They fell 39-30 to Ponaganset. St. Mary Academy-Bay View was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Ponaganset apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.
Jaina Yekelchik was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds for Ponaganset. That makes it five consecutive games in which Yekelchik has scored at least 25% of Ponaganset's points. Another player making a difference was Anastasia Nerney, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.
St. Mary Academy-Bay View's defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1. As for Ponaganset, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
St. Mary Academy-Bay View will head out on the road to face off against Barrington at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ponaganset will be home for the holidays to greet Chariho at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
