If the Franklin County Wildcats were feeling good off their 72-45 takedown of the Victory College Prep Bulldogs last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Franklin County fell to Talawanda 38-32. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Franklin County came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 334th in Indiana, while Talawanda is ranked 738th in Ohio).
Nick Vanoven and Quinn Gilman certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Vanoven scored nine points along with four steals, while Gilman scored eight points. Vanoven is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight.
Franklin County has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Talawanda, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-16.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Franklin County will face off against Edinburgh at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Edinburgh focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Friday. As for Talawanda, Talawanda and Harrison will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
