The McClave Cardinals had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They took down Cheraw 61-42. Given McClave's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Wolverines are ranked 227th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McClave's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tuff Kelley led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kelley has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Conner Forgue, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
McClave is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Cheraw, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.
McClave will head out on the road to take on the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Eads will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Cheraw will take on the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Saturday.
