The Willamette Wolverines's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight loss. They suffered a tough 80-60 defeat at the hands of South Eugene. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Friday (55), Willamette still had to take the loss.
It was another big night for Levi Hawes, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds for South Eugene. The team also got some help courtesy of Calvin Yoder, who scored 11 points.
Willamette dropped their record down to 2-16 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for South Eugene, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-7.
Willamette will be playing in front of their home fans against South Medford at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. South Medford presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Willamette in Oregon (South Medford is ranked 20th, while Willamette is ranked 229th). South Eugene's road trip will continue as they head out to face Sheldon at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Sheldon has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 410 points over their last six games.
