The Delavan-Darien Comets will square off against the Brodhead/Juda Cardinals at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Delavan-Darien made easy work of Big Foot and carried off a 14-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Chiefs: they've now won three in a row.
Joel Janssen and Kaden Garbe made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Janssen pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Meanwhile, Garbe pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Janssen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. At the plate, Janssen scored five runs and stole seven bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Garbe scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Haaken Hovestol was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Kevin O'Grady was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Delavan-Darien always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Big Foot only posted an OBP of .346.
Meanwhile, Brodhead/Juda made easy work of Whitewater on Tuesday and carried off an 11-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cardinals.
Braylon Strehlow was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Sam Searls, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Brodhead/Juda now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Delavan-Darien, the win got them back to even at 2-2-1.
Delavan-Darien was able to grind out a solid victory over Brodhead/Juda when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 5-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
