The Old Orchard Beach Seagulls will square off against the Mount View Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Mount View will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Old Orchard Beach extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. Everything went the Seagulls' way against Traip as they made off with a 22-1 victory. The matchup marked the Seagulls' most dominant win of the season so far.
Daniel Cashman and Mathew Charron made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Cashman pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Charron tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Cashman went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Charron went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most runs Cashman has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wes Gallant, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five stolen bases, five runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Trot Moody, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mount View faced Maine Central Institute in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Mustangs never let the Huskies get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. Considering the Mustangs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Like Old Orchard Beach, Mount View also got a great game from a pair of two-way players: Stuart Knowlton. On the mound, Knowlton struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Kaden Bradeen tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Knowlton also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Mount View is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 0-3 otherwise. At the plate, Knowlton went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Bradeen got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That double was Knowlton's first of the season.
In other batting news, Cole Gerrish was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Abel Grassi, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Mount View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Old Orchard Beach's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Mount View, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Old Orchard Beach was able to grind out a solid win over Mount View in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-1. Do the Seagulls have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
