On Monday, the Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels faced the Cherry Tigers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Moose Lake/Willow River was dealt a 92-56 defeat at the hands of Cherry. Moose Lake/Willow River's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Cherry's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaiah Asuma, who scored 20 points along with five assists. Carson Brown was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Moose Lake/Willow River's defeat dropped their record down to 3-1. As for Cherry, they pushed their record up to 7-0 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Moose Lake/Willow River won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mesabi East at 7:15 p.m. on December 19th. Mesabi East will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while Moose Lake/Willow River is ranked 14th). Cherry will finish 2023 at home by hosting Forest Lake at 2:00 p.m. on December 28th.
