The Trinity Valley Trojans are taking a road trip to challenge the Covenant Christian Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Trinity Valley turned things around against St. Stephen's Episcopal on Saturday. They came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 5-2.
Jackson Drake spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Andrew Audi was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Hub Nickels, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Covenant Christian took on Parish Episcopal on Monday. Covenant Christian put the hurt on Parish Episcopal with a sharp 10-4 victory. Considering the Cougars' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Carter Humphrey made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Covenant Christian is 3-1 when Humphrey allowsthree or fewer hits, but 0-1-2 otherwise. Humphrey was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Collin Balderree and Matthew Boughton did most of the damage at the plate: Balderree scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Boughton scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Balderree a new career-high in stolen bases. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Jordan, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Trinity Valley's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Covenant Christian, they now have a winning record of 3-2-2.
Everything went Trinity Valley's way against Covenant Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as Trinity Valley made off with a 12-5 victory. Will Trinity Valley repeat their success, or does Covenant Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
