Basketball Game Preview: Simeon Wolverines vs. Saint Ignatius College Prep Wolfpack

The Simeon Wolverines will square off against the Saint Ignatius College Prep Wolfpack at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Last Wednesday, Simeon came up short against Rich Township and fell 47-34. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 249th, while the Raptors are ranked 124th).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Dijona Berrien, who posted 11 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Janiya Pillow was another key player, putting up nine points and five steals.

Meanwhile, Saint Ignatius College Prep had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past the Blazers 63-42. The Wolfpack have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.

Saint Ignatius College Prep is also on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points per game. As for Simeon, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

Everything came up roses for Simeon against Saint Ignatius College Prep when the teams last played back in February of 2020, as the squad secured a 59-30 victory.
