The South Eugene Axe's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell just short of North Medford by a score of 59-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Levi Hawes and Landyn Bryant certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Hawes scored 19 points along with four steals, while Bryant scored 11 points along with eight assists and three steals. Hawes hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Calvin Yoder, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
North Medford's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Houston Klug, who scored 23 points. Klug continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Miguel Torres was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with two steals.
South Eugene's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for North Medford, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-13.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Grants Pass the next time they take the court. North Medford will host Grants Pass at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, while South Eugene will head out to face them at 6:45 p.m. on Friday.
