The Heritage Christian Eagles pushed their score all the way to 55 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 80-55 walloping at the hands of Hamilton Heights. While losing is never fun, Heritage Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while Hamilton Heights is ranked 15th).
When it comes to explaining why Heritage Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mya Davis. Despite the final result, she scored 27 points along with two steals. That was a full 49.1% of Heritage Christian's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trinity Taylor, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds.
Hamilton Heights got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Camryn Runner out in front who scored 31 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Runner hasn't dropped below 15 points for 21 straight games. Another player making a difference was Katie Brown, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and 1 assist.
Heritage Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Hamilton Heights, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 20-2.
Heritage Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Park Tudor at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. As for Hamilton Heights, they will take on New Castle at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. New Castle is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
