The Cesar E. Chavez Lobos will face off against the Lamar Texans at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Cesar E. Chavez's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Lamar's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Cesar E. Chavez is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Heights.
Cesar E. Chavez got a big performance out of Daniela Rivera, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Rivera launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahmani Hawkins, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lamar). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Westside a 19-0 shutout on Thursday. With that victory, the Texans brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Hailey Hernandez was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February. Clarissa Perez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Lamar kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.2.
The win made it two in a row for Lamar and bumps their season record up to 5-8. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Cesar E. Chavez, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
Lamar's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cesar E. Chavez has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Lamar, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Cesar E. Chavez's sizable advantage in that area, the Texans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Cesar E. Chavez was able to grind out a solid win over Lamar in their previous meeting back in March, winning 6-3. Do the Lobos have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Texans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
