The Queensbury Spartans will face off against the Scotia-Glenville Tartans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Scotia-Glenville will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Queensbury extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Spartans blew past Gloversville 16-1.
Kaylee Heritage was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Heritage was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Ava Goertzen was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mckenna Hazelton, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Queensbury kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.4.
Meanwhile, Scotia-Glenville got the win against Hudson Falls on Wednesday by a conclusive 11-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tartans.
Like Queensbury, Scotia-Glenville also got a great game from a two-way player: Keeley Kristel. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Kristel has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Emma Klejsmyt was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Rose Malone was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Scotia-Glenville's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Queensbury, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
Queensbury's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's match. The Spartans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Scotia-Glenville, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Queensbury continue to outrun the ball?
