The Williston Red Devils had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past Newberry with points to spare, taking the game 58-41. This was payback for Williston, who suffered a 67-60 loss the last time these two teams met.
Williston found their leader in underclassman Janiyah Span, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Span has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kierce Solomon, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Williston pushed their record up to 10-9 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Newberry, their loss dropped their record down to 13-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Williston will square off against P.K. Yonge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Newberry, they will head out on the road to square off against Columbia at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
