After eight games on the road, McCollum is heading back home. They will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Southwest Legacy Titans at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 68-25, which was the final score in McCollum's tilt against Clemens on Wednesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points McCollum has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Southwest Legacy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Friday after their sixth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 75-51 walloping at the hands of East Central. While losing is never fun, Southwest Legacy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 812th, while East Central is ranked 79th).
McCollum bumped their record down to 1-11 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Southwest Legacy, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.
McCollum didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Southwest Legacy in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 56-52 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Southwest Legacy's David Johnson, who scored 13 points along with eight steals. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for McCollum to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
