Waubay/Summit and Britton-Hecla are an even 4-4 against one another since October of 2018, but not for long. The Mustangs will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Braves at 7:00 p.m. Waubay/Summit has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with six straight losses, while Britton-Hecla will come in with three straight wins.
On Thursday, Waubay/Summit didn't have quite enough to beat Langford and fell 3-2. While the Mustangs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lions 25-18 in the first set.
Waubay/Summit actually scored more points across those five sets (104-99), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-21, 16-25, 25-22, 15-11.
Meanwhile, Britton-Hecla hadn't done well against Milbank recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Braves were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Bulldogs. The Braves not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since September 11th (when they won 3-0).
Britton-Hecla got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 32-30, 25-13.
Britton-Hecla's win came from a few key players Waubay/Summit will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Airiana Buer, who had eight digs and four aces. That's the most aces she has posted over her last eight contests. Ava Teveldal was another key player, getting 14 digs and one assist.
Britton-Hecla was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least nine aces in three consecutive matchups.
Britton-Hecla's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Waubay/Summit, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
