Softball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is Daleville's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Daleville had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 23-run drubbing they dealt Pike on Tuesday. The Broncos put the hurt on the Red Devils with a sharp 25-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Emily Simmons was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Valyn Pattengale, who fired off six RBI, three runs, and three doubles while going 4-for-5. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddie Rees, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Daleville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .619. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Daleville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Pike, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-16.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Daleville will host Muncie Central at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pike, they will welcome Indianapolis Arsenal Technical at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
