The Richland Rams will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mount Union Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Richland will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
Richland put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Penns Valley Area 45-7 at home. The win was just what Richland needed coming off of a 43-15 loss in their prior contest.
Richland got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Grayson Mahla out in front who rushed for 30 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 165 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Easton Robertson, who rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mount Union had no problem doing just that on Friday. They skirted past United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United] 25-22.
Mount Union can attribute much of their success to Josh Ryan, who rushed for 113 yards and three touchdowns, and Bryce Danish, who rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. Danish was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards.
Mount Union's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB seven times. The heavy lifting was done by Hunter Steel and Davin Yocum who racked up five sacks between them.
Their wins bumped Richland to 10-1 and Mount Union to 9-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Richland has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 170.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mount Union struggles in that department as they've been even better at 286.9 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
