The North Salinas Vikings will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Gonzales Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully North Salinas focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
North Salinas struggled with assists on Friday (Monte Vista Christian had 11 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. North Salinas lost to Monte Vista Christian at home by a decisive 60-45 margin. While losing is never fun, North Salinas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1123rd, while Monte Vista Christian is ranked 544th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jesse Mendez, who scored seven points. Another player making a difference was David Jauregui, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Even though Gonzales has not done well against Greenfield recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Gonzales skirted past Greenfield 50-48. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Gonzales has posted yet this season.
North Salinas' defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Gonzales, their victory bumped their record up to 4-9.
North Salinas and Gonzales were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but North Salinas came up empty-handed after a 57-56 loss.
