Basketball Recap: Corey Gellineau and Gianmarco Altare Secure Win for Coral Reef

Coral Reef lost to Dr. Krop back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Coral Reef Barracudas put the hurt on the Dr. Krop Lightning with a sharp 72-48 victory. Given the Barracudas' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th, while the Lightning are ranked 536th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Coral Reef was led to victory by Gianmarco Altare and Corey Gellineau. Altare went 9 for 13 on his way to 20 points and four steals, while Gellineau dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten assists. The dominant performance gave Gellineau a new career-high in points. Ashton Williams was another key player, putting up eight points and seven rebounds.

Dr. Krop's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Anigh Gracia, who went 5 of 8 en route to 13 points along with six boards and five steals, and Johans Richards, who went 8 for 17 on his way to 21 points and eight rebounds. Richards' evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Clayton Owens, who posted six points.

Coral Reef's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.5 points per game. As for Dr. Krop, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

Coral Reef has already played their next game, an 89-56 victory against JC Bermudez Doral on the 23rd. As for Dr. Krop, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 64-33 defeat against Hialeah Gardens on the 23rd.
