The Greenbrier West Cavaliers will head out to challenge the Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Greenbrier West is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
While Greenbrier West's victory against James Monroe wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cavaliers had just enough and edged out the Mavericks 10-9. The Cavaliers haven't had any issues with the Mavericks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Kyndall Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered nine runs (all of which were unearned) on ten hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brilee Redden was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Brooke Patterson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Greenbrier West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Woodrow Wilson was able to grind out a solid victory over Liberty on Saturday, taking the game 6-1.
The team relied heavily on Shailee Sexton, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hadley Reott, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Woodrow Wilson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Greenbrier West, their record now sits at 8-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Greenbrier West has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Woodrow Wilson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Greenbrier West came up short against Woodrow Wilson when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
