After flying high against the Aline-Cleo Cougars back in December of 2023, the Deer Creek-Lamont Eagles came back down to earth. Deer Creek-Lamont suffered a tough 54-33 defeat at the hands of Covington-Douglas on Thursday. Deer Creek-Lamont has struggled against Covington-Douglas recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
It was another big night for Ford Smith, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals for Covington-Douglas. The contest was Smith's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Miguel Tarango was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five assists.
Deer Creek-Lamont's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Covington-Douglas, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-5.
Deer Creek-Lamont will head out on the road to face off against Kremlin-Hillsdale at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Covington-Douglas won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Wichita HomeSchool on January 5th. Wichita HomeSchool is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
